Planning for Retirement
When do you want to retire?
Can you actually afford to? And if you can’t yet, what would it take to get there?
Most people don’t have clear answers to those questions. Nobody ever sits them down and explains what their financial future looks like. That’s what we do.
The closer retirement gets, the more real it feels.
Most clients come to us in their late 40s or early 50s. They’ve got pension pots from previous employers, maybe some savings, perhaps a property. But no clear picture of what it all adds up to, what it’s costing them, or whether it’ll be enough.
Without a plan, you’re guessing. You might be in investments that are too cautious for where you are in life, missing out on tax allowances every year, or heading for a retirement income well below what you’d hoped for, and not finding out until it’s too late.
The earlier you start, the more options you have. But it’s never too late to get a proper plan in place.

How we work with you
Discovery
We meet to understand your situation, your current financial position, your goals, and your attitude to risk. We explain our services and how we charge. This stage is always at our expense.
Strategy
Once we have everything we need, we build your bespoke financial strategy report. This includes a lifetime cash flow model of your estate, a clear picture of your financial future, year by year.
Recommendations
We arrange a meeting to present our recommendations in detail. We treat every client as we would our own family, explaining everything in plain English.
Track
Once recommendations are in place, we set you up on your Personal Financial Folder (PFF) and/or Personal Financial Portal (PFP) so you can see your financial picture at any time.
Review
We meet regularly to review your plan, check you’re on track, and make adjustments as your life or circumstances change.
How we help you plan for retirement
We start by getting a clear picture of where you are and where you want to be. From there everything is built around your situation, your timeline, and the retirement you actually want.
Cash flow planning is what we start with. We map out your current financial position, where you want to be, and model what your future looks like year by year, so you can see exactly what you’re working with.
That means looking at your existing pensions, workplace schemes, savings, and investments. Understanding what they’re worth, what they’re costing, and how they’re performing. Then modelling different scenarios. What if you retired at 55 instead of 60? What if you paid an extra £300 a month into your pension? What would that mean in real terms?
We go through all of this with you on screen, page by page. We want you to leave every meeting with a clear head, not a report that goes in a drawer.
It shows where you are now, projects your income, spending and assets into the future, and identifies any gaps between where you’re heading and where you want to be. We update it every time we meet, because your life changes and your plan should too.
Most firms are only just catching up with this. We’ve been doing it for years, and we think every client should have one.
- Building a long-term cash flow plan around your goals and timeline
- Reviewing and consolidating existing pensions, including old workplace schemes
- Understanding your retirement income options: drawdown, annuity, or a combination
- Making the most of your annual pension and ISA allowances
- Making sure your investments match your attitude to risk
- Planning for the income you actually want in retirement, not just a rough figure
- A cash flow planning report showing your current position, future projections, and the impact of different scenarios
- A recommendation report explaining what we’re recommending, why, and any implications to be aware of
- An annual suitability review at every subsequent meeting, checking you’re on track and adjusting where needed
You'll work with one advisor. Long term.
Each of our advisors works with a set number of clients. The person you meet on day one is the same person you’ll be working with in five, ten, twenty years. They’ll know your goals, your family, your circumstances. They’ll be there for the big decisions and the routine ones.
That kind of relationship is rare. We think it matters.
