Business owner at a desk reviewing financial documents

Financial planning for business

Your business and your personal finances are more connected than you might think. We plan for both.

Financial planning for business

You’ve put everything into building your business. But when did you last stop and ask: is my money actually working as hard as I am? Are my profits structured in the most tax-efficient way? If something happened to me tomorrow, is the business protected?

For most business owners, financial planning keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list. We understand that. Let us take it off your plate.

Business planning and personal planning are the same conversation.

One of the most common situations we see: a business owner who has done well, built something valuable, but whose personal financial plan is years behind the business. The profits are there. The tax efficiency isn’t. The protection isn’t. And there’s no clear plan for what comes next.

We work with business owners across the North West to bring all of it together. Sole traders, husband-and-wife operations, limited companies with growing teams. We look at the full picture and build a plan around your business and your life, not a template that could belong to anyone.

We also work closely with your accountant. Joined-up advice between your financial planner and your accountant makes a real difference. We make sure we’re pulling in the same direction.

Don't just take our word for it

Over 50 five-star Google reviews. Here's what our clients say.

"Moved my pension for Mike to manage several years ago and it has performed brilliantly thanks to his decisions. Mike's communication and service is second to none. I recommend everyone to get in touch with him and his team. "
John wilson
"We’ve been using Chameleon Financial Planning to manage our pensions and general finances, and the experience has been fantastic. Every member of staff is incredibly helpful and professional, but a special mention has to go to Mike, who has been brilliant. It’s a huge relief to know our future is in such capable hands. Highly recommended!"
Michelle Riley
"Put off speaking to a financial advisor for far too long. Was given Chameleon's contact details and took that step towards getting help. The process was easy. Everything was clearly explained, no pressure, worked to my timetable, reassuring throughout and happy with the results. Would highly recommend. Everyone is so helpful and professional."
Growth Lancashire
"Mike has been advising us for some years now and has always shown care and interest in our finances. The reviews we have are regular and explained in a very understanding way. I would recommend Chameleon Financial planning based on our experience so far. We are very happy."

How we work with you

Here's exactly what working with us looks like.

Discovery

We meet to understand your situation, your current financial position, your goals, and your attitude to risk. We explain our services and how we charge. This stage is always at our expense.

Strategy

Once we have everything we need, we build your bespoke financial strategy report. This includes a lifetime cash flow model of your estate, a clear picture of your financial future, year by year.

Recommendations

We arrange a meeting to present our recommendations in detail. We treat every client as we would our own family, explaining everything in plain English.

Track

Once recommendations are in place, we set you up on your Personal Financial Folder (PFF) and/or Personal Financial Portal (PFP) so you can see your financial picture at any time.

Review

We meet regularly to review your plan, check you’re on track, and make adjustments as your life or circumstances change.

How we help you plan financially as a business owner

We look at your business and your personal finances together, because the two are inseparable. Everything we build is based on your income structure, your goals, and where you want to end up.

The biggest wins usually come down to two things: tax efficiency and protection.

On the tax side, the opportunities are often significant, and most business owners miss them. Contributing to a pension through the business is one of the most effective ways to reduce corporation tax and draw profits efficiently. It builds personal wealth at the same time. We model this through cash flow planning so you can see the long-term impact, not just this tax year.

On the protection side, most businesses are more exposed than their owners realise. What happens if a key person dies or becomes seriously ill? Is there a plan? These aren’t comfortable conversations, but they’re important ones.

The same approach we use for personal planning applies here, with one difference: it takes your business income, structure, and goals into account alongside your personal finances. What’s the plan for the business? What do you want your financial life to look like when you step back? How do we get you there in the most efficient way?

Your cash flow plan is a live document, updated at every meeting. Because your business changes, and your plan should too.

For your business:

  • Shareholder and partnership protection
  • Key person insurance
  • Relevant Life policies (tax-efficient life cover via the business)
  • Executive Income Protection
  • Group pensions and employee benefits
  • Corporate investment planning for surplus business funds

For you personally:

  • Cash flow planning that incorporates your business income and exit goals
  • Drawing profits tax-efficiently through salary, dividends, and pension contributions
  • Corporation tax reduction through pension contributions
  • Business exit and succession planning
  • Personal protection alongside your business commitments
  • A cash flow planning report covering both your business and personal finances, with projections and scenario modelling
  • A recommendation report detailing what we’re recommending, why, and any implications to be aware of
  • Clarity on how to draw income most tax-efficiently for your situation
  • An annual suitability review at every subsequent meeting, checking you’re on track and adjusting where needed

You'll work with one advisor. Who knows your business and your personal finances.

Running a business means your finances are more complex than most. Your advisor needs to understand the business side and the personal side, and how the two affect each other. At Chameleon, you work with the same person throughout. They’ll know your business structure, your income, your goals, and your plans for the future. When things change, they’ll already have the context to help you respond.

Disclaimer

This page discusses pensions, investment, and protection products. All three relevant disclaimers should appear, not just the estate planning one. The required verbatim text for each: Pensions: A pension is a long-term investment not normally accessible until 55 (57 from April 2028). The fund value may fluctuate and can go down, which would have an impact on the level of pension benefits available. Investments: Your capital is at risk. The value of your investment (and any income from them) can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested. Protection: Life Assurance plans typically have no cash in value at any time and cover will cease at the end of term. If premiums stop, then cover will lapse.
